Reinshagen – Village History and the Satower Land Cycling Route
Accommodation in Reinshagen
Reinshagen combines village history with the route of the “Satower Land” cycling tour. Historic farmsteads and two manor houses add another point of interest. When planning your trip, you can weigh up the cycling route and rural architectural history as separate interests.
Cycling through Reinshagen
The “Satower Land” cycling tour leads from the direction of Satow to Reinshagen. It runs through the village along Dorfstraße and continues toward Retschow. Check route conditions before setting off so you can include this section in your itinerary.
Farmsteads, manor houses, and village life
The Rostock district’s list of historic monuments, dated May 14, 2024, lists the farmstead at Dorfstraße 15 as a protected monument. The complex includes a residence, a barn, a livestock building, and a pigsty.
Two manor houses offer another perspective on Reinshagen’s architectural history. The manor house on the first estate is probably a half-timbered building from the 18th century; the manor house on the second estate was built in the 18th century. Half-timbering is a construction method with a load-bearing timber frame and infill panels; the classification of the first manor house remains tentative. Both manor houses are associated with the 18th century; the first one’s classification as half-timbered is uncertain.
The “Zur Deutschen Eiche” inn and guesthouse is a popular spot in the region and offers meals and accommodation with its restaurant and guesthouse. The restaurant has been an integral part of village life since 1926. If you are considering staying at the guesthouse, check current availability before booking.
In the wider destination of Satow
Satower See is in the village of Satow and covers 6.8 hectares. Paddle boats and stand-up paddleboards are permitted there; check local rules before using them. The adventure trail at Satower See is suitable for walks, hikes, and outings with the whole family. Rest areas add to the route, whose stations and information boards provide details about the region’s wildlife, plant life, and history. The lake brings together the permitted water activities, while the adventure trail focuses on walking, nature, and regional history. A well-maintained bathing area with a beach is located on the north shore.
The 13th-century ruin of the monastery church, considered a local landmark, is situated in Satow amid a park and shapes the village center. The old Satow church was built between 1219 and 1224 in a transitional style between Romanesque and Gothic, and is one of the oldest buildings in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The old cemetery around the church ruin has a park-like character and provides a setting for a variety of cultural activities. The Satow church has been used jointly by Protestant and Catholic Christians since 1945.
