Lärz: Hotels and Accommodations

Lärz lies south of Lake Müritz in the Mecklenburg Lake District between Rechlin and Mirow. The Mirow–Vietzen Canal runs through the town and forms part of the Müritz-Havel Waterway. The upper Elde also flows into Lake Müritzsee, which is connected to Lake Müritz via the Müritzarm. The municipality is characterized by a wooded landscape; numerous lakes are located nearby, including Thüren, Tralowsee, Nebel, Müritzsee and Müritzarm.

Water and Landscape

The Müritzarm near Gaarzer Mühle is considered a resting area for cranes and a breeding ground for storks. Gaarzer Mühle is regarded as a starting point for boat trips and offers boat rentals, access to bathing areas, a campsite and a snack restaurant.

Cycle Paths

The Mirow–Rechlin Lakes Circuit passes through Lärz and is aimed at e-bike users and recreational cyclists. The Waren–Ankershagen–Mirow cycling route for road cyclists also passes through the town.

Church and History

Lärz was first recorded on November 23, 1237, in the documented determination of the boundaries of Dobbertin Abbey. The town developed as a farming village belonging to Dobbertin Abbey. The Lärz church stands in the village center; during the summer months, it can be visited on open-church days.

The church was consecrated four years after construction began in 1618. Its 1895 organ is Mecklenburg's only completely preserved instrument built by the former Schlag & Söhne company.

Airfield and Events

Müritz Airfield Rechlin-Lärz is a civilian airfield for powered aircraft, ultralight aircraft and gliders. After 48 years of Soviet use, the airfield was reopened for civilian use in 1994. Scenic flights over the lake district are offered from Lärz airfield.

The Fusion Festival takes place at the former military airfield in Lärz. It combines electronic music with theater, performance, film and workshops. Since 1997, the festival has been organized by Kulturkosmos Müritz e.V. as a large-scale volunteer-run event.
