Boating opportunities at Hafendorf Müritz
Hafendorf Müritz, a modern marina with around 400 berths, is located in Rechlin-Nord. There, you can rent motorboats without a licence or prior experience. Canoes, rowing boats and pedal boats are also available for hire. This lets you plan around the type of boat you want; the options listed differ mainly in whether you would like to use a motorboat or a smaller watercraft.
Trails and nature around Rechlin
Rechlin has well-maintained cycling and hiking trails. If you would rather explore the surrounding area on foot or by bike than from the water, these offer another way to shape your stay. Boek, a district of Rechlin, is the southern gateway to Müritz National Park.
In Boek, Fischer- und Angelhof Bolter Schleuse offers two different experiences involving fish and ponds. From the terrace, visitors can attract typical fish to the surface with a little food in an observation pond and watch them. There are also several ponds covering an area of more than 10 hectares where visitors can fish. Watching fish in the observation pond and fishing in the ponds are therefore clearly distinct activities that shape the visit.
Town centre and waterfront
The town centre includes a tourist information office and a market square. The waterfront promenade with its pier and restaurants, as well as the boat moorings, have also been redesigned. Alongside boating and nature, these places offer another focus for your stay, centred on the townscape.
Aviation history and change
The Luftfahrttechnisches Museum Rechlin presents the town’s aviation history, from the beginnings of flight in 1918 onwards. The periods covered include the Flieger-Versuchs- und Lehranstalt am Müritzsee, the RDLI test centre and, from 1934, the Luftwaffe test centre. The museum is housed in the historic buildings of the Luftwaffe test centre of the Third Reich, Gruppe Nord.
Other exhibitions explore the site’s post-war history: its use by the NVA until 1990 and by the Red Army until 1993. They also cover the history of the Rechlin shipyard and the town’s history up to the present day. The museum also houses the best-preserved boat in a series of which only four examples still exist. Guided tours are available by arrangement.
Memorial and church in Boek
The memorial to the Ravensbrück concentration camp subcamp in Retzow/Rechlin has undergone extensive renovation. The outlines of five barracks were uncovered and a new path was created to make the memorial accessible to people with disabilities and older visitors. Boek is also home to the listed St. Johannis Church, a church building in a district of the municipality of Rechlin. Those interested in local and aviation history, remembrance or historic churches will find a variety of cultural themes to consider when planning their trip.
