Genzkow: Lakeside Hiking Trail and Manor House History

A small lake shapes the landscape of Genzkow. Where nature observation and rural cultural heritage come together, two clearly recognizable focal points emerge here: the lake with its hiking trail and the historic village setting around the church, village green, parkland and manor house history. This combination makes the different facets of the village visible within a small area.

Lake and Landscape

A well-maintained hiking trail runs around the lake, on whose northwestern shore Genzkow is situated. Benches by the lake invite visitors to linger. The small lake is therefore not only a defining landscape feature, but also a clear reference point for a walk. The path along the shore provides clear spatial orientation, while the benches offer simple opportunities to pause by the water. Herons nest near Genzkow. A stork's nest in the castle park is part of Genzkow's village landscape every year. By the water, the path, seating and nature observations thus combine to create a landscape impression that can play a distinct role when choosing a travel destination.

Village Green, Parkland and Manor House

The village setting of Genzkow can be understood particularly well at the village green. Genzkow's 650 m long village green encompasses the church within an oval churchyard. It runs in an S-shape around part of the manor garden. A parkland area stretches between the church, Genzkow Manor House and the Genzkow Ditch (lake). The village green's 650 m length is just as important for orientation in the village as its S-shape. Following its course, visitors move between the churchyard, manor garden and the area around the manor house, parkland and water. This creates a village structure in which the paths, ecclesiastical focal point, manor garden, manor house and water are closely interconnected for you.

Genzkow Manor House forms another focal point in the history of the buildings. It is a solid, single-storey rendered building with rustication, a mansard roof and a three-axis central avant-corps. For a tour of the historic village setting, the manor house provides its own architectural reference point alongside the church, village green and parkland. Genzkow Manor House was built around 1770 and structurally altered around 1800. The façade of Genzkow Manor House was restored in 1998. The building thus combines a clearly described form with several different construction phases.

Church and Historical Testimonies

The church itself also offers several specific points of reference for the history of the village. The pulpit altar in Genzkow Church dates from 1775. Genzkow Church also contains a bronze bell cast in 1729 by Michael Begun in Friedland. At the west wall of the church stands the gravestone of the Royal Danish colonel and hereditary lord of Genzkow, Jürgen Ludwig von Lübberstorf (1647–1714). For a tour of the village, the church area combines sacred furnishings, bell casting and personal remembrance in a single historic location.
