Sarow in the Regional Context

Sarow is a municipality in the Demmin-Land administrative district, in the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The Augraben stream flows through the northwestern part of the municipal area. Sarow is located about 14 kilometers southeast of Demmin and 23 kilometers northeast of Stavenhagen; federal highway 194 runs west of the municipality.

Sarow was first recorded on March 5, 1266, under the historical name Sarowe. Sarow Castle was mentioned in 1331 in a papal feudal charter concerning the Pomeranian dukes. The surrounding area of Sarow also includes Demmin with St. Bartholomaei Church and Verchen with its monastery church.
