Langø: Harbor, Cultural Landscape and Fjord Views

Langø showcases the maritime side of Nakskov Fjord particularly clearly: the village has the largest fishing harbor in West Lolland. In the past, Langø was a 170-hectare island. The former island location and the present-day harbor location give the village two distinct historical points of reference. ## Harbor and Cultural Landscape At the heart of Langø is a high-quality cultural landscape environment with old fishermen’s houses and a church. In the center, there are still Stejlepladser, where fishermen can dry and clean their nets. The village also still retains the four former farms belonging to Langø’s village owners’ association. Thus, when looking at the village center, houses, church, and traces of the former village structure appear together. Langø Church was built from red bricks between 1899 and 1901 and has a flat ceiling. The altarpiece in Langø Church is a copy of Carl Bloch’s “Jesus in Gethsemane.” The church therefore offers two distinct points of interest: its architectural form and its artistic furnishings. At Stendyssevej, on Langø’s highest point, lies a passage grave approximately 6,000 years old. The passage grave’s mound offers views across the fjord. The viewpoint expands the cultural-historical focus to include a landscape perspective: visiting the historic site can be combined with views over the fjord. ## Water, Trails and Active Days Langø Harbor is located in Nakskov Fjord and is protected by Albuen Tange. The excursion boat “Gaia” is based in Langø Harbor. This makes the harbor a visible part of the village’s maritime character. The location on the fjord therefore shapes not only the harbor views but also the possible activities on the water. “Gaia” represents the maritime side of the harbor, while kayaking opens up a different perspective on Albuen, Enehøje, and Nakskov Fjord. There are several different options for active days. The “Langs fjorden” route passes through Langø. Langø is well suited to hiking; a walk along Vester Oddevej offers views over Søndernor toward Albuen, with Langeland in the background. For kayaking, the nature park identifies Langø as a place with particularly good conditions. Langø Bådelaug rents out two kayaks for trips to Albuen, Enehøje, or on Nakskov Fjord. Guests at the marina can rent bicycles from Langø Bådelaug by arrangement. There are two shelter sites in the village. The options therefore differ clearly according to the form of movement: the route and the walk explore Langø from land, while the kayaks provide access to the fjord.
