Hjelm on the Baltic Sea: Coast, Nature and Cycling Routes

On the section around the Guldborgsund Tunnel, views open up towards the motorway and the Guldborgsund. Another scenic cycling route is the “Sundruten”: it is just over 46 km long and runs between Nykøbing Falster, Guldborg and Sundby. The local history also offers several clearly dated points of reference. The place name Hjelm has been documented since 1330 in the form Hielm. Fogdegd. and Rafnegd. are documented in Hjelm for the year 1682. A school was built in Hjelm in 1911. The parish library was established in 1944; its 3,400 volumes were distributed among the schools of Hjelm and Soesmarke.
