Kastrup: Aquarium, Beach Park and Culture

Kastrup offers you a clear choice between a waterfront experience, an aquarium and culture. Kastrup Strandpark has large lawns available for picnics; you can swim in the Øresund there. This focus is complemented by Den Blå Planet, Danmarks Akvarium, as well as museums and buildings with distinctive cultural profiles.

Beach Park, Swimming and Leisure by the Øresund

Kastrup Strandpark has large lawns that are suitable for picnics. There, you can swim in the Øresund from the beach, the bathing jetty or the three- or five-metre-high diving boards. Recreational fishing is also possible in the park. This allows you to combine quiet hours in the greenery, time by the water and an active pursuit in one place, without having to limit yourself to just one type of coastal experience. Several forms of time by the water are available for planning your day: you can choose access via the beach or the bathing jetty and use the diving boards as a sporting focus. The lawns also provide a designated place to take a break, while recreational fishing offers another activity in the park.

Kastrup Søbad, a beach, is located in the vicinity of Kastrup. Kastrup Søbad can be used free of charge year-round. The site is also known as Sneglen, was designed by White Architects and built in 2004–2005. For your travel planning, this is a separate complement to the beach park: you can get to know Kastrup both through open park areas and via the Søbad. The Søbad can therefore be considered as a separate stop alongside the beach park when planning your visit.

Den Blå Planet and Clear Directions

Den Blå Planet, Danmarks Akvarium, opened in Kastrup in 2013. The aquarium is Northern Europe's largest aquarium and holds seven million litres of water. If you would like to combine your stay with a visit to this notable destination, you can find clear directions via the Metro: Den Blå Planet is 650 metres from Kastrup Metro station (Den Blå Planet). The route from the Metro to the aquarium is signposted throughout.

This allows you to take different interests into account when choosing your accommodation: the beach park represents picnics, swimming and recreational fishing, while Den Blå Planet has a clear focus on the underwater world.

Modern Graphics and Notable Buildings

Kastrup's cultural side includes Kastrupgårdsamlingen – Museum of Modern Graphic Art. It is a state-recognised museum focusing on modern graphics. Kastrup Church is also home to the only church decoration created by Svend Wiig Hansen. Both subjects provide a different emphasis from the beach park and aquarium and give you a reason not to view Kastrup exclusively through its waterfront location. The collection and the church provide different cultural accents: modern graphics on the one hand, and the church decoration created by Svend Wiig Hansen on the other.

When looking for accommodation in Kastrup, you can therefore first determine the type of day you want: Is your main interest in parkland and water, Den Blå Planet, or modern graphics and a distinctive ecclesiastical work of art?
