Architectural history around Gørløse Church

The church’s first stone building was erected around 1250. In the 15th century, vaults were added to Gørløse Church, while the tower dates back to 1500. From the first stone building and the vaults to the tower, the history spans the period from the 13th century to the threshold of the 16th century. Those interested in architectural history will find several points of interest from different periods along which to structure a tour. The church can therefore be viewed not only as a medieval building, but also as a structure that developed over a longer period.

Gørløse Rytterskole is located in the middle of Gørløse, diagonally opposite the church. When finding your way around the town, you can thus relate two historic landmarks directly to one another: the church with its medieval sections and Rytterskole as another building in the townscape. Gørløse Skov: Short Route or Extension

It is just under 3 km long and leads through the relatively recently established Gørløse Skov forest. The forest gives the route its own landscape character. The short basic route can be planned as a compact walk; those allowing more time can extend it across the grassland to Langebjerg.

Castles in the Surrounding Area

The region’s cultural history can also be included. Frederiksborg Slot is a castle in the area surrounding Gørløse. Hirschholm Palace is a palace in the wider region around Gørløse. The two destinations therefore represent different geographical levels: Frederiksborg Slot belongs to the nearby area, while Hirschholm Palace is part of the wider regional context.

Agriculture at Freerslev Kotel

Freerslev Kotel offers another thematic perspective. More than 2,500 schoolchildren visit the visitor farm throughout the year, where they learn a great deal about Danish agriculture.

During the farm shop’s opening hours, visitors can see the animals in the stables and out in the fields. Guided tours can also be booked at Freerslev Kotel visitor farm. These tours showcase the animals and agricultural machinery. Anyone wishing to explore the different sides of Gørløse and its surroundings will therefore find, alongside the church, forest and castle culture, a tangible connection to Danish agriculture.
