Gilleleje between Coast, Lighthouses and History

Gilleleje displays its coastal character at Gilleleje Vest. Gilleleje Vest is part of the Blue Flag scheme. The grassy area adjoining Gilleleje Vest Beach is a protected natural area with paths and benches. The paths and benches are located within the protected area and immediately next to the beach. The coastal section is thus characterised by the beach and the adjoining protected landscape area.

Gilleleje Museum: Fishing, Holiday Life and Escape

Gilleleje Museum conveys holiday idyll, fishing history and the escape across the Øresund. Visitors can explore historic houses, visit holiday apartments from the 1950s and discover one of Denmark's possibly smallest holiday homes in the museum's garden. The exhibition “October 1943 – the escape to Sweden” includes eyewitness accounts from people who fled and from people who helped them. The museum thus brings together holiday life in the 1950s and the history of the escape in October 1943. Culture enthusiasts can therefore find concrete insights here into fishing history, holiday life and the memory of the escape across the Øresund.

Kulturhavn Gilleleje and Nakkehoved Lighthouse

Kulturhavn Gilleleje includes a mezzanine with concerts. Nakkehoved Lighthouse consists of two lighthouses, an eastern and a western one, both built in 1772. The Lighthouse History Museum is housed in the former residence of the lighthouse keeper at the Western Lighthouse. On clear days, Sweden can be seen on the horizon from Nakkehoved Lighthouse. Maritime history is represented here both by the Kulturhavn concert venue and the historic lighthouse complex at Nakkehoved Lighthouse.

Gilbjergstien: Coastal Hike along the Kattegat

The Gilbjergstien coastal hiking trail runs along the coast from the town of Gilleleje to Gilbjerghoved. From the cliffs, which rise up to 33 metres, the view extends across the Kattegat to the Swedish Kullen peninsula. Gilbjergstien is approximately 2.5 kilometres long and runs mostly through protected areas. The approximate route length of 2.5 kilometres provides a specific framework for planning a coastal walk. At the same time, the cliffs and the view towards Kullen shape the course of this trail. The two endpoints, Gilleleje and Gilbjerghoved, give the trail a clearly recognisable direction.

Interactive Route and Gilleleje Labyrinth

“Kierkegaard by Nature” is a 12-kilometre interactive hiking route following in the footsteps of Søren Kierkegaard. The route begins at Stejlepladsen at the harbour of Gilleleje and can be walked year-round. At 12 kilometres, the route is considerably longer than the approximately 2.5-kilometre Gilbjergstien. Its year-round accessibility means that it can be planned independently of any single seasonal period.

The Gilleleje Labyrinth is a quiz labyrinth with a network of paths spanning more than 7 kilometres and five entrances. Guided alpaca tours are also offered in the vicinity of the Gilleleje Labyrinth. The five entrances belong to the labyrinth complex, while the guided alpaca tours take place in its surroundings.
