Trönningenäs between Fyrstrandsfjorden and Getterön

Trönningenäs brings together coastal landscapes, nature observation and maritime culture within a compact geographical area. The village lies between Fyrstrandsfjorden and Getterön Nature Reserve.

Coast, nature and distinctive landscapes

Getterön Nature Reserve, a Natura 2000 site, is located near Trönningenäs. In addition, Getterön Bird Reserve has a visitor centre with a café, shop and a Naturum nature centre. These facilities are part of the immediate surroundings of Trönningenäs and give the area a clear focus on natural history. There are also some rock formations resembling caves near Trönningenäs.

Trönningenäs has a beach and small marinas. Its location between Fyrstrandsfjorden and Getterön Nature Reserve makes the village particularly interesting for visitors who want to divide their days between the shore, natural surroundings and local history.

Cycling towards Varberg

Trönningenäs is about a 15-minute bike ride from central Varberg. From the planning area, Varberg centre is about six kilometres south via the Kattegattleden. In addition, a pedestrian and cycle path runs along the northern side of Trönningenäsvägen between a point about 100 metres west of the planning area and Road 845. The two distance figures have different reference points: the 15-minute journey applies to Trönningenäs, while the approximately six kilometres applies to the planning area. The cycle path along Trönningenäsvägen, in turn, refers to a local section.

Via the Kattegattleden, Varberg centre is about six kilometres south of the planning area. The pedestrian and cycle path along Trönningenäsvägen is instead a local section on the northern side of the road and is not the same route as the connection to Varberg.

Windmill and older farm buildings

Trönningenäs has a well-preserved group of older farm buildings with a windmill in coastal heathland covered with heather. A particularly vivid detail is Kvarnen i Trönningenäs: it is a Hättkvarn, that is, a windmill with a rotating cap. The sails can be turned into the wind using a ground-level crank. This makes the mill’s technical speciality immediately understandable, without reducing it to merely a historical local landmark.

Kvarnen i Trönningenäs was donated to the Lindberga Local Heritage Association in 2007. In addition, a building in Trönningenäs was extensively renovated by the Lindberga Local Heritage Association. Together with the older farm buildings, this creates a distinct cultural and historical focal point within the village.

Maritime history at the Marinmuseet

The Marinmuseet in Trönningenäs houses an extensive collection of items from ships of the Swedish American Line. The museum also displays an original model of the ship Gripsholm. The collection relates to several ships of the Swedish American Line, while the original model focuses on a single ship, Gripsholm. For you, this place is particularly suitable as part of your travel plans if maritime history and specific collection pieces interest you more than a purely beach-oriented trip. The marinas and the Marinmuseet offer different points of emphasis: one focuses on the local coastal setting, while the other explores the history of shipping.
