Simlångsdalen

Simlångsdalen combines extensive hiking experiences with lakes, nature reserves and regional culture. Hiking between lakes and nature reserves

Simlångsdalen has around ten hiking trails through wild nature, along beautiful lakes and through fairytale-like forests. The 8-kilometre Simlången Circuit runs through the Bröda and Veka nature reserves at its eastern end. The 4.2-kilometre Brearedssjön Circuit, on the other hand, goes around Lake Brearedssjön and offers a clearly defined route for exploring the landscape by the water.

Longer or thematically different trails are also available. The Gårdshultleden hiking trail passes Danska Fall and continues to Gårdshult Nature Reserve. On the Smedhultaleden in the same nature reserve, you reach Halmstad Hill, a viewpoint with expansive views over Halmstad. The Hallandsleden hiking trail also runs through Simlångsdalen.

The division of access points is relevant for finding your way around the hiking area: Most hiking trails in the southern hiking area of Simlångsdalen can be reached via the bathing area at Lake Brearedssjön. This is located next to the Vargaslätten garden. The northern hiking area begins at the old Simlångsgården farm in Gyltige. This makes it possible to choose different starting points based on the desired route and landscape, without equating the hiking areas with one another.

Lakes, water activities and longer routes

You can swim in the freshwater of Lake Brearedssjön next to Simlångsdalen. Fishing is possible in Lakes Gyltigesjön, Töddesjön, Simlången and Brearedssjön, as well as in part of the Fylleån River. Canoe and kayak rentals, beginner courses and expeditions are available for exploring the local waters.

Those planning to cover greater distances can choose between the Banvallsleden and Hylteleden, two significantly longer routes. The 250-kilometre Banvallsleden runs from Simlångsdalen along a former railway line through varied terrain. The 165-kilometre Hylteleden leads west or east and then back to Simlångsdalen. The Banvallsleden’s historical status as a route along a former railway line is part of its own character and should not be equated with a current rail connection.

Vargaslätten and regional history

Vargaslätten is a 14-hectare total work of art where architecture, crafts, art and nature merge. Work on Vargaslätten began in 1917. The architect Sigfrid Ericson and his wife Ruth bought the site and gave it the name Vargaslätten. Alongside the hiking trails, this makes a site of cultural and historical significance the focus, with a design that connects several areas.

Another historical site is the Breareds Lanthandelsmuseum. It is housed in a 19th-century shop and also includes an adjoining residence from the 1920s to the 1940s, as well as a school museum.

Special experiences in Simlångsdalen

In addition to hiking, swimming and fishing, bookable nature-based culinary hikes and outdoor cooking courses are offered in Simlångsdalen. These activities focus on something different from the circular trails and viewpoints: They combine the landscape with regionally influenced activities and preparing food together outdoors.
