Røjle on the Little Belt: Cliffs, Beach and Nature Trails

Røjle is located on the Little Belt and combines a distinctive coastal landscape with trails, beach and geological traces. Røjle Klint is up to 45 metres high; the coastal view can be enjoyed from above. Røjle Klint includes trails, a stretch of beach and access through Kasmose Skov.

Røjle Klint, the beach below, Kasmose Skov and the local footpaths appeal to different interests: coastal views, geological curiosity, nature observation and walking can be planned as separate focal points.

Coast, Beach and Fossils

Fossils can be found on the beach below Røjle Klint. The clay at Røjle Klint contains fossils and minerals, including shark teeth, whale bones, silky spar and phosphorite. Røjle Klint also contains moraine clay, meltwater sand and black volcanic ash that formed millions of years ago.

In addition to the coastal view, the materials of the cliff give the area a geological dimension. For visitors interested in the history of the Earth, the specific topics here range from fossils and minerals to the different components of the clay.

There are open coastal slopes at Røjle Klint. In front of the cliff, a marine foreland with beach ridges and nutrient-rich fens has developed. The combination of coastal slope, foreland and beach therefore offers various natural settings that you can consider separately when planning your visit.

Fen and Forest

Røjle Klint and Kasmose Skov are part of Natura 2000 site no. 111. Kasmose Skov grows on steep slopes that partly consist of plastic clay. Kasmose Skov was designated as an untouched forest in 1993.

The Røjle-Mose Trail passes through various bio- and geotopes and is intended for pedestrian use. The landscape of Røjle Mose documents a geological history reaching back to the Weichselian glaciation. For those interested in nature, walking here goes hand in hand with observing landforms and geological connections.

The combination of open coastal slopes, fens, forested slopes and geological traces appeals to different interests for a day out. You can focus on coastal views, natural formations, fossils or a pedestrian trail, without limiting the landscape to just one type of visit.

Trails and Orientation

The Strandstien/Kærlighedsstien is approximately 4 kilometres long. Over the final 2.8 kilometres, you can choose between the beach and an asphalt road. The trail runs from Strib Fyr/Ved Nordenbro to Røjle Klint. Depending on the section, the route therefore follows the beach or the asphalt road.

The approximate total length and the option available on the final section help you consider the trail according to the landscape experience you prefer: close to the beach or along the asphalt road.

The former railway line from Røjle has been preserved as a recreational trail. This means that a connection with the former railway is also part of the trails that can be combined with the coast, forest and fen in Røjle.

For travelling by car, the two car parks differ considerably in capacity: the Røjle Klint car park has space for 5 to 8 cars, while the Kasmose Skov car park has space for 25 to 30 cars. These figures provide a straightforward guide when planning your drive.
