Culture and Special Experiences

During Bridgewalking Lillebælt, you reach the top of the Old Little Belt Bridge at a height of 60 metres above sea level. The bridge is the focus of an experience that combines height and the Little Belt.

The CLAY Museum of Ceramic Art in Middelfart is Denmark’s only specialist museum for ceramic art, crafts and design. Its Royal Copenhagen collection comprises more than 55,000 objects and is considered one of Europe’s finest porcelain collections. Another historical highlight is Henner Friisers Hus, a Renaissance gabled house built around 1580.

MIND conveys more than 100 years of Danish psychiatric history. MIND includes a sensory garden where you can go barefoot and feel various textures, as well as a garden designed with artworks from the Danish Arts Foundation.

Routes between Town, Forest and Coast

The 2.3-kilometre Keramikruten in Middelfart combines ceramic art with harbour atmosphere and urban life. For a different pace, the Banestien follows a disused railway line from the New Little Belt Bridge to Vejlby. It is 4.3 kilometres long, leads through Staurby Skov and past open fields, and can be used by bicycle or on foot. The different lengths of the routes help you organise walks and excursions according to the desired extent, while ceramic art, harbour atmosphere, forest and open fields each bring different impressions to the fore. At 2.3 kilometres, the Keramikruten is shorter than the 4.3-kilometre Banestien. This allows you to include culture and urban life in your daily itinerary just as you can forest, fields or coastal slopes.

The Klimaruten in Middelfart is also a 3-kilometre walking route through the four sections of Klimabyen. At 3 kilometres, the Klimaruten lies between the Keramikruten and the Banestien.

Nature and Activities by the Water

The Hindsgavl Peninsula is home to a 165-hectare wildlife park with red deer and fallow deer. There are also beech forest and coastal slopes. This combination appeals to visitors who want to combine wildlife observation, forest and coastal landscape in one excursion. The 165 hectares refer to the wildlife park; the beech forest and coastal slopes are additionally located on the Hindsgavl Peninsula.

From Middelfart Marina, you can kayak along the coast. In August, a recurring theme is added with the Klimafolkemødet: the event takes place in Middelfart every year and focuses on the climate. The range therefore extends from an active perspective on the water to engagement with climate issues. Middelfart Marina serves as the starting point, while the coast forms the route of the kayaking trip.
