Lakes, Trails and Nature around Svogerslev

Svogerslev is a destination for days when lakeside landscapes, trails and local history come together. Lynghøjsøerne emerged from a former raw-material extraction area that was transformed into a nature area close to the city. They consist of three lakes: Lyngager Sø, Flæng Sø and Vejgård Sø. The three lakes structure the area spatially and give the natural surroundings several connections to the water. This makes the choice of destination one focused on a clear experience of nature and culture.

Lynghøjsøerne as a Diverse Natural Area

Lynghøjsøerne have a well-developed network of trails for hiking, cycling and horseback riding. There are bathing beaches at the western and central lakes. At the central lake, the troll figure Runde Rie by Thomas Damborg sits and fishes. Café Runde Rie is open on weekends during the summer half of the year. This means the area can be explored in different ways depending on your interests. The trail network combines several forms of travel within the same lakeside landscape: it can be experienced in different ways on foot, by bike and on horseback. When planning their day, visitors can combine their preferred mode of transport with the points of interest by the water. The café remains a time-limited stop available on weekends during the summer half of the year.

Lakeside Landscape and Access

Svogerslev Sø is one of the lakes in the chain of lakes in Kornerup Ådal and is home to a diverse fish population. Access to the area at Svogerslev Sø is via Søbredden and the Skjoldungestien along the Kornerup Å. The hand-operated ferry across the Kornerup Å can be reached on foot from the east via the Skjoldungestien. Boserupkilen forms a green connection between Roskilde and Svogerslev.

The meadows along Svogerslev Sø also contribute to the distinctive character of the landscape: among other plants, they are home to kødfarvet gøgeurt and majgøgeurt, as well as various other interesting plant species. Alongside the open water surfaces, meadows, plants and smaller bodies of water also shape the surroundings. The landscape therefore extends beyond the shores of the lakes. Between 2013 and 2015, around 20 ponds and lakes were created or restored on municipal land near Svogerslev and Boserup.

Culture between Church and Burial Mound

Svogerslev Church and Dømmes Høj represent culture and history. Svogerslev Church is a small medieval church from the mid-12th century. Dømmes Høj is a protected prehistoric burial mound and part of a series of Bronze Age burial mounds dating from approximately 1700 to 1100 BC. The church and burial mound represent different historical eras: the church is medieval, while Dømmes Høj belongs to a series of Bronze Age burial mounds. This makes it possible to shape a stay around nature trails, lakes and clear historical points of reference.
