A clean beach and high dunes are among Chłopy’s defining features. If you want to plan your trip primarily around the coastal scenery, these are two concrete things to consider for your stay. At the same time, the port and fishing history give the village its own distinctive character. When choosing a destination, you can weigh up whether the beach and dunes or maritime village life better match your interests.

Fishing port and local fishing

Chłopy has a fishing port for individual fishers. It is home to 12 fishing boats that fish in coastal waters. The port is also one of the attractions listed along the Velo Baltica Route R10. This makes it worth considering both for travellers interested in fishing and for cyclists who want to visit the route’s listed stops.

Fresh and smoked fish are available to buy at the fishing port. This adds a concrete offering connected with local fishing to the picture of the village. If you are interested in Chłopy’s maritime side, you can see the port, fishing boats and fish sales as different aspects of the same local character, without equating them with the other things to do.

Traces of the fishing village

A historic trail runs along ul. Kapitańska, with panels showing old photographs and a map of the settlement from 1930. The photographs and map give the trail a clear connection to the place: they focus on Chłopy and the history of its settlement. If you want to include culture and history in your trip, this gives you a specific point of interest in the village.

Chłopy is also home to several half-timbered buildings dating from the 19th century. Skarbnica Wioski Rybackiej

At the Skarbnica Wioski Rybackiej, visitors can experience a multimedia simulation of a storm on a fishing boat. The facility is accessible and caters to visitors with disabilities. Its listed features include wide passages between the exhibits, a wheelchair lift to the upper floor and a toilet. These specific features can help you determine whether the facility meets your needs for a visit.

Younger visitors can also enjoy activities there: they can put together puzzles, take a quiz and use a play area. Visitors can also try on historical clothing. The Skarbnica thus combines maritime themes, playful activities and the opportunity to try on historical clothing. Which of these aspects matters to you depends on whether you are more interested in fishing, an engaging simulation or activities for younger visitors.

Routes and other places

The “Szlakiem Mieleńskich Morsików” quest leads through Chłopy. Near Chłopy, the Obelisk of the 16th Meridian stands on a forest path east of the village, where the 16th meridian runs. The obelisk is next to a rest area on a tourist trail.

Another structure in Chłopy is the pier at ul. Kapitańska 47. It has been there since 2015 and is 90 metres long and two storeys high. The pier adds another structure in the village alongside the historic buildings and the trail with old photographs.
