Wapnica: Jezioro Turkusowe, Buchenwald and Hiking Trails

The landscape around Wapnica includes Pomeranian beech forest, terminal moraine hills, a valley area and the cliff coast along the Szczecin Lagoon. A typical form of Pomeranian beech forest occurs in the surrounding area. The cliff coast along the Szczecin Lagoon lies in the south of the protected district.

Jezioro Turkusowe between mining history and protected nature

A central landscape feature is Jezioro Turkusowe in Wapnica. The lake was created by the flooding of a former chalk mine; its formation is therefore part of the history of the village. A nature trail runs alongside the strict Prof. Szafer Reserve. Jezioro Turkusowe can be circled on scenic paths designated by Wolin National Park. At the lake, the geological background, nature trail and designated paths come together in a clearly defined natural area.

In the strict Dr Bohdan Dyakowski Reserve, one section of the Pomeranian beech forest community also includes one-flowered melick. This specific plant occurrence is therefore part of the natural-history character of the protected district.

For orientation at Jezioro Turkusowe, the park provides parking areas as well as information boards and tourist maps. This equipment is complemented by rain shelters, benches and tables. Anyone circling the lake or using the nature trail can incorporate the available orientation features and places for breaks into their own daily planning. Hiking between Jezioro Turkusowe and viewpoints

The blue tourist trail can be divided into stages of varying lengths. A 1.5 km section leads from Jezioro Turkusowe to the Zielonka viewpoint. The entire blue hiking trail is 26 km long and can be completed in stages with an overnight stay in Wapnica. Anyone who does not want to cover the 26 km in one day can include Wapnica as an overnight location when planning these stages. When planning stages, the specific length of the route can be coordinated with the desired duration of the day.

Another specific point of interest is the Piaskowa Góra viewpoint. It is located on the southern shore of Jezioro Turkusowe and offers views of Wapnica, the Dolina Trzciągowska valley, Lake Wicko Małe and the Świna back delta. The viewpoint connects the lakeshore area with a fixed destination for a hike while also directing the view towards the village, valley, lake and delta. The view from Piaskowa Góra extends beyond the immediate lakeshore area.

Maritime connection at Wapnica Marina

The Wapnica Marina is an orientation point on the water. It is located on the eastern shore of Jezioro Wicko Wielkie in the northern bay of the Szczecin Lagoon. Thus, in addition to Jezioro Turkusowe, Jezioro Wicko Wielkie is also part of Wapnica’s maritime landscape.
