Dziwnów: Promenade, Coastal Views and Maritime Culture

Dziwnów lies on both sides of the Dziwna. Since the town’s earliest days, a permanent crossing has been needed. The promenade, coastal views and maritime themes add different dimensions to a stay; you can explore the town on foot as well as through its connection to the water.

Walking Routes and Sea Views

The promenade in Dziwnów is a scenic walking route through the town. Its western section, Promenada Zachodnia, runs along the crest of a dune and opened at the end of 2018. If you would like to notice the landscape as you walk, this clearly identified section offers a route along the dunes. The breakwaters offer a different perspective, with views of the sea, the coast and a section of the Dziwna towards the bridge. The breakwaters are open to tourists all year round.

Drawbridge and Maritime Culture

When the drawbridge is raised, ships up to 10 metres high and 8 metres wide can pass through. These clearance dimensions give water transport a concrete scale and complement the landscape perspective offered by the promenade and breakwaters.

The Nadmorski Park Miniatur displays lighthouses from the Polish coast in one place. You can visit the park on your own or with a guide. The exhibition brings the lighthouses together as a single theme for visitors. At the Morskie Centrum Nauki, the focus is on people and the sea: the exhibition explores the history of Dziwnów’s fishermen, and visitors can carry out experiments relating to processes in the sea. Local maritime history and hands-on exploration of marine phenomena are thus presented as distinct themes.

Beaches and Nature in the Municipality

In the municipality of Dziwnów, swimming in the sea is possible under the supervision of qualified lifeguards at the beaches in Dziwnów, Dziwnówek, Łukęcin and Międzywodzie. Beach rental shops offer equipment. The beach options therefore include several places within the municipality and combine swimming with supervised conditions.

Lake Martwa Dziwna in Dziwnów offers a different perspective on nature and is included in the Natura 2000 conservation programme. The options therefore differ when planning a trip: the beaches mentioned offer supervised sea swimming, while Martwa Dziwna is a lake with designated protected status.

Seasonal Boat Trips

In the municipality, from spring until the end of the summer season, excursion boats designed as pirate ships depart each year from Przystań Statków Wycieczkowych. Their destinations are Kamień Pomorski and the open sea. If you would like to include a trip in your plans, check the seasonal dates in advance.

The time of year also distinguishes these options: the breakwaters are open to tourists all year round, while the boat trips are seasonal. This makes it easy to treat coastal views in any season and a boat excursion as different parts of your stay.
