Discover Załom

Załom combines natural landscapes, marked trails and individual historic sites on the outskirts of Szczecin. For active days, the hiking routes and forests of the Puszcza Goleniowska are the main attractions. Anyone wishing to combine activity, nature and the historic character of the city area when planning a trip will find several specific themes here to consider.

Hiking Trails through Załom-Kasztanowe

The blue-marked Szlak Anny Jagiellonki trail (ZP-1058-n) is 35.3 km long and runs through the Załom-Kasztanowe administrative housing estate. Its length makes the route an extensive option for planning an active day. A second trail is marked in red: the Szlak Rekowski (ZP-1057-c) runs from Szczecin Załom railway station via Szczecin Zdunowo, Niedźwiedź and Szczecin Jezierzyce to Rekowo. The sequence of locations shows the route through several parts of the city area and beyond.

Forest, Natura 2000 and Old English Oaks

The Załom-Kasztanowe administrative housing estate lies on the northeastern edge of the Prawobrzeże district and is surrounded by the forests of the Puszcza Goleniowska. Its western part lies within the “Dolina Dolnej Odry” Natura 2000 site. Thus, the natural area extends from a continuous forest region to a European protected area. Another specific destination is the avenue of 26 English oaks (Quercus robur). On 20 June 2005, the Szczecin City Council placed it under protection as a natural monument in the Załom administrative housing estate. At a height of 1.3 m, the trees have circumferences of 123 to 472 cm and are 20 to 26 m tall. These measurements also make the stand interesting for visitors who would like to notice old trees and their varying dimensions during a walk.

Orientation at the Railway Stop

Szczecin Załom railway stop has two platforms, each connected to the railway line on one side, with a length of 200 m each. It is therefore just as much a part of the local landscape as the hiking trails and provides another fixed reference point for orientation in Załom. The Szlak Rekowski also starts here, while the Szlak Anny Jagiellonki runs through Załom-Kasztanowe. This gives trip planning two different focal starting points: the specific railway stop and the extensive landscape of the administrative housing estate.

The Parish in Szczecin-Załom

The history of the district includes the Parish of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Szczecin-Załom. It was founded on 25 December 1987 and is the oldest parish in this part of the city. Its founding date and position within the city area give the place a cultural and historical dimension alongside its forest, protected area and hiking trails. When exploring Załom, you can therefore take both the landscape and outdoor activities and the development of the district into account.
