Goleniów developed as a medieval trading town and joined the Hanseatic League in 1368. A prominent testimony to this history is the Wolińska Gate: the preserved medieval town gate is the only one of Goleniów’s four historic town gates that remains and has medieval origins as a defensive structure. Its stone defensive structure combines with later Gothic brick elements; at the same time, the gate retains its 15th-century form.
