Wielbark: Cycling Routes, Kayaking and Churches
Accommodation in Wielbark
Wielbark offers several ways to plan a stay: cycling routes with specified distances, a Nordic walking loop, a challenging kayak route on the Sawica, and 19th-century churches. Active days can be planned around the different types of routes; for those interested in cultural history, two churches each have their own denomination and architectural character. You can focus on trails and activities or on the town’s architectural history.

Compare cycling routes by length and course
The “Zielone Góry” cycling route is 35.5 kilometers long, marked in green, and starts and ends in Wielbark. The red “Karolinka” cycling route is 14.2 kilometers long and is also a loop that starts and ends in Wielbark. The information about both cycling routes is dated June 23, 2020. A direct comparison of their lengths makes the difference clear: “Zielone Góry” is more than twice as long as “Karolinka.” You can use this to choose a route that matches your preferred distance for a day of cycling; it is advisable to check current route conditions before setting out.
“Karolinka” passes the “Karolinka” forester’s lodge and a monument to Russian General Aleksander Samsonow. If you are choosing between the two cycling routes, you can take these named points along the way into account, as well as the loop’s length and red markings.
On foot or on the water
The five-kilometer Nordic walking loop starts at the southern end of Wielbark. The Bagno Łatany cycling route, by contrast, starts on ulica F. Nowowiejskiego in Wielbark. The two routes therefore differ not only in activity: the southern end of town is the starting point for the walking loop, while Bagno Łatany starts on a specifically named street.
The kayak route on the Sawica offers a different kind of challenge. It is considered difficult because of the many obstacles in the river, including fallen trees, stronger currents and numerous bends. Since river conditions can change over time, check the current situation before setting out. Unlike the land routes, where length and starting point provide guidance, obstacles and currents define the character of the Sawica route.
19th-century churches
Wielbark is home to a Neo-Gothic Roman Catholic parish church complex and an Evangelical-Augsburg church, both dating from the 19th century. They offer different points of reference for understanding the town’s cultural history: Neo-Gothic architecture characterizes the parish church complex, while the other church is Evangelical-Augsburg. Their shared date places both among the buildings of the same century, while their style and denomination set them apart. This tangible architectural and religious history adds to the ways of experiencing Wielbark as a travel destination.
