The Mazursko-Kurpiowski Hiking Trail
The Mazursko-Kurpiowski Hiking Trail runs from Szczytno via Rudka, Małdaniec, Lipowiec, and Radostowo to Klon. This sequence places Rudka on a longer route and also names other places along the way. The trail is marked in yellow. To find your way, you can therefore take into account both the place names and the trail’s color. If you would like to include a hike in Rudka in your trip, you can follow this designated trail and its described route.
After crossing the Szczytno–Ełk railway line, one section of the trail passes through a pine forest. After 3 km, the trail reaches Rudka. This distance describes the stretch from crossing the railway line to the village; it is not the length of the entire hiking trail between Szczytno and Klon. It therefore locates Rudka within the described section without applying the distance to the entire route.
The route through Rudka also includes a sequence of directions: after 8.6 km, turn left; after reaching a bridge, continue right toward Czarkowy Grąd. The distance refers to this route instruction. The bridge is the next named landmark, and the direction after it leads to Czarkowy Grąd. Together with the yellow markings and the sequence of places, this gives a concrete picture of the hiking route, without implying a walking time or stage length.
Location on the Wałpusza
Rudka lies on the Wałpusza in the Masurian Lake District, on the boundary between the Mrągowo Lake District and the Masurian Plain. This location gives the village a clear geographical context: Rudka is part of the Masurian Lake District and is situated on the boundary between two named regions. Buildings and a cemetery as traces of local history
At Rudka 22, there is a wooden cottage designated “dom (chałupa) nr 20.” This is distinct from the farmstead complex at Rudka 20, designated “zespół zagrody nr 20” and listed as a residential building. The two entries refer to different addresses and building types. This distinction is particularly useful when exploring Rudka’s architectural history, because the cottage’s designation also includes the number 20, even though its address is Rudka 22.
Northwest of Rudka, beside a forest track, lies a former 19th-century Protestant cemetery. It has been restored and is used by the village community; the remains of the former cemetery have been preserved. The cemetery’s former function, its historical period, and its present-day use by the village community are all noted here. The site thus connects a trace of 19th-century history with its described use today. Its location northwest of Rudka and beside the forest track also distinguishes it from the buildings in the village.
