Piasutno: Lake, Sports and Masurian History
Accommodation in Piasutno
For a stay centered around a lake, Piasutno offers a clear focal point: Lake Piasutno. Sporting events on the shore, recreational fishing and traces of Masurian history give visitors a range of ways to plan their trip.
Lake Piasutno: Size and Leisure Interests
Lake Piasutno covers 51.74 hectares. Its average depth is 4 metres, and its maximum depth is 7 metres. The difference between the average and maximum depths is therefore 3 metres. The area and depth measurements offer two different points of reference when assessing a lake by its size and depth.
Since 1 January 2025, Lake Piasutno has been open to private recreational fishing. Annual and short-term permits are available, among other places, in Szczytno and Olsztyn, as well as through the wedkarz.pzw.pl app. Check the current ways to obtain permits before your trip. This lets you consider fishing as a distinct focus without equating it with the lake’s other recreational options.
Sports and Events
The 20th Open Beach Volleyball Championships of Szczycieński County took place on the shore of Lake Piasutno on 18 July 2026. Twelve women’s, men’s and mixed teams competed using the Brazilian system. The tournament has been organized for many years jointly by the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury in Świętajno and the Ochotnicza Straż Pożarna in Piasutno. This event in the past shows that, alongside individual leisure activities, team sports are also part of the town’s events calendar. If you plan to travel specifically for a competition, check the dates in advance.
The nationwide Scrabble tournament “Scrabble nad jeziorem” is also associated with Piasutno. In 2019, the municipality described it as a recurring event. If you would like to plan your trip around this tournament, check the current dates. Beach volleyball and Scrabble represent different occasions: a team competition on the lakeshore and a Scrabble tournament in Piasutno with participants from across the country.
Masurian History and Architecture
The Polish school in Piasutno opened in 1931 and was the only Polish school in Masuria at the time. Its first and only teacher was Jerzy Lanc. This local history offers a specific historical focus that goes beyond leisure activities on the lake. In the town centre, the “Lanca” cycling route leads to a building where Jerzy Lanc taught. Anyone interested in the connection between cycling and local history can include this route as a themed point of reference when planning a trip.
Piasutno’s architectural heritage also includes traditional Masurian houses. They complement the history of the Polish school with a different perspective on the town: here, the focus is not on a single biography, but on traditional houses in Piasutno. Together, these features cater to two distinct interests: the history of Jerzy Lanc and Masurian architecture.
