The Palace as an Architectural Attraction
The historic palace in Orzyny is a two-storey rectangular building with a hip roof. Its façade features a large central avant-corps decorated in the Classical style and paired pilasters. A central avant-corps projects from the middle of the façade; pilasters are flat, column-like wall features. These terms describe two elements of the front: the emphasized central section and the paired vertical features. The rectangular building and hip roof define its basic form, while the central avant-corps and pilasters shape the façade.
The park remnants at the palace offer a view of an island in the lake. This adds a tangible connection to the landscape to the architectural theme: the view of the island is as much a part of the image of this place as the architectural features of the palace.
Lakes and Nature Reserves
Near Orzyny, the Kulka Nature Reserve forms a strip about 20 to 30 metres wide and approximately 2,500 metres long along the eastern shore of the ribbon lake Łęsk. These dimensions show the reserve’s elongated, narrow shape. It is mostly covered by oak-hornbeam forest, with some mixed forest. The reserve was established in 1955 to protect a section of mixed forest with Pontic flora and protected plants. Kulka thus combines its lakeside location with the protection of a stretch of forest and its plant life.
Lake Arwiny is also near Orzyny. It lies within the Spychowski Landscape Protection Area, at the junction of the Orzyny–Dźwierzuty and Orzyny–Rańsk roads, and west of the Szczytno–Mrągowo route. Access to the lake from Orzyny is considered fairly good and leads through meadows and fields. There are several large piers along the shores; fishing is also one of the recreational activities at the lake. Trail and Beach
Orzyny lies on the Palace and Manor Trail. The route connects Małszewko, Budy, Grądy, Grodziska, Zalesie, Rogale, Przytuły, Targowska Wola, Popowa Wola, Orzyny, Targowo and Jabłonka. If you plan to include the trail in your itinerary, check the current route and trail markings before setting out.
