History and Surroundings

Biesal is home to the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was formerly a Protestant chapel, built in 1924.

The wider region around Biesal includes Ostróda – Teutonic Castle, 14th century, Olsztyn – Castle, 14th century, Janusz Kusociński Park, and Dylewska Góra.

In the immediate vicinity, near Tomaryny, a bunker complex was built between 1897 and 1902 to secure the railway line next to the Olsztyn–Ostróda railway and the Pasłęka railway bridge.

Landscape

The Gmina of Gietrzwałd is considered a landscape characterized by 14 lakes, fields, and forests. The Pasłęka forms a natural boundary between historic Warmia and Masuria.

The municipality lies in the central Olsztyn Lake District and encompasses extensive forest areas. A beaver reserve is located along the Pasłęka.
