Nowe Miasto Lubawskie is considered a town on the banks of the Drwęca River. Its history dates back a long way: its foundation is dated to 1325, and in 1353 the town received a foundation charter under Chełmno law from Winrich von Kniprode. Also in 1353, Winrich von Kniprode granted it town rights under this law.
Culture
The Church of St. Thomas the Apostle is a collegiate church and minor basilica. The basilica is Gothic. Nowe Miasto Lubawskie is also part of the Cittaslow movement.
