Lubawa: Hotels and accommodations

History

Lubawa is first mentioned on February 18, 1216, in a document issued by Pope Innocent III; from the mid-13th century onward, the town was a private town of the bishops of Chełmno. The Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Anne was built around 1330. Later additions include the Chapel of Saint Barbara and the Mortęski family crypt.

Lubawa's history also includes the former bishop's castle, a Franciscan monastery founded in 1502, and the arrival of the Bernardine Order in 1580. In the wider surrounding region are Dabrowno, with the ruins of a 14th-century Teutonic Order castle; Szymbark, with a fortified castle dating from the 13th to 14th century; and Ostróda, with a 14th-century Teutonic Order castle.

Dylewska Góra is located in the wider surrounding region of Lubawa. Lubawa is considered to be situated along a tourist route near lakes and ski lifts. Activities associated with the town include mushroom picking, horseback riding, nature observation, hunting, and hiking tourism. A water nature reserve is also associated with Lubawa as an excursion destination.
