Sałkowice: Hotels and Accommodation

Sałkowice is located on the Elbląg Upland and has a history dating back to before the time of the Teutonic Order. The first written mention dates from the 15th century.

Geographical Location

Sałkowice belongs to the Gmina of Pasłęk, Elbląg County and the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. Voivodeship road 1173N runs through the village from voivodeship road 513 via Cieszyniec and Sałkowice to Surowe. The Elbląg Canal is a navigable waterway through the Vistula lowlands and the Iława Lakeland.

History

In the late 16th century, Sałkowice was incorporated into Grądówko, which at that time belonged to Achatius von Borck. During the Napoleonic Wars, a French military detachment was stationed in Sałkowice.

Buildings and Historical Traces

A prayer house was built in Sałkowice in 1854 and also served as a chapel, school and teacher's residence. In 1857, the chapel received a pulpit, an organ, a baptismal font and a wooden bell tower. The prayer house was rebuilt in 1925.

A former Protestant cemetery has also been preserved. The former Protestant chapel and school building likewise remains as part of Sałkowice's historical heritage. A former blacksmith's shop has also been preserved and now serves as a private residence.

After a change of ownership in 2000, the former school building was converted into a guesthouse. A guesthouse called Megi operates in the former school building.
