ElblÄ…g lies at the mouth of the ElblÄ…g River on the Vistula Lagoon. The city thus combines a distinctive waterside location with a cityscape whose historical references are visible in several places.

ElblÄ…g is one of the oldest cities in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. The city was founded in 1237 and received its town charter in 1246.

The modern old town of ElblÄ…g recreates the historic city centre. Its notable features include Targowa Gate and a former Protestant church that now serves as a gallery.

Local visitor infrastructure in ElblÄ…g includes the Archaeological and Historical Museum, a theatre, a municipal sports and leisure centre, and the tourist information office.

The city's tourism website promotes urban routes in ElblÄ…g and tourist routes in the surrounding area. It also promotes a certificate-based activity associated with the urban routes.

Elbląg can be reached by motor yacht via the Elbląg Canal and a section of the Żuławy Loop.
