Hulu: Cycling Routes and Rural History

Hulu is best explored by cycling its routes. Several tours start or end in the village and offer different points of reference for planning. Cycling loops and starting points

Two loops can be compared directly by length: the Sämsjön runt loop shown in the GPX file is 37.8 kilometres long and starts in Hulu near a shop. Yttre Åsunden Runt is 32.8 kilometres long and designated as an MTB route. Sämsjön runt is therefore five kilometres longer. The Länghemsrundan starts and ends in Hulu; parking is available in Hulu for those arriving by car. Swimming, fika and shopping along the way

Yttre Åsunden Runt offers plenty of opportunities for swimming and fika. The Swedish Fika Route starts and ends in Hulu, between Ulricehamn and Borås; there are several cafés and farm shops along the route. The routes therefore have different stated highlights: swimming and fika are possible activities on Yttre Åsunden Runt, while the Swedish Fika Route also passes cafés and farm shops. The Cycle Tour around Åsunden lake passes through Hulu/Tvärred by a supermarket where you can buy food or drinks. Getting there and practical information

A municipal planning document from 2024 records two bus stops within approximately 150 metres of the Å 1:53 property in Hulu. Bus stop locations may change; check their location before travelling if you plan to use this information. Haganäsbadet in Tvärred/Hulu is important for water planning on the Åsundenleden: it is not one of the places where you can refill water. Take this exception into account when planning.

Landscape and history

The area around Hulu was historically used for agriculture. Most of the buildings in Hulu parish date from the late 19th century and the 1920s and 1930s. A property in Hulu also contains archaeological remains in the form of fossilised fields. Hulu is also one of the areas with dry grasslands or other grazing habitats.
