Stenungsund between nature trails and art by the sea

Stenungsund can be explored via nature trails, historic sites and art by the water. In the centre, Kvarnslingan and Hälsans Stig offer two different routes for active days. These are joined by the medieval remains of Stenunge by, Kulturhuset Fregatten and the Stenungsunds Konststråk art walk. Nature trails in the centre and nearby

Kvarnslingan is a nature trail in the centre of Stenungsund and is approximately 1.5 kilometres long. Salamanders occur in the Kvarnslingan area as resident or temporary visitors. Hälsans Stig offers a longer central loop: The route is 5 kilometres long and marked with signs at every kilometre. The two trails therefore clearly differ in terms of length and orientation.

Nösnäs friluftsområde includes the Stenungsund Arena disc golf course. There is also a 1.5-kilometre illuminated path there. Gårdsjön, a clear-water lake of approximately 32 hectares, is located near Stenungsund. A circular trail around the lake is approximately 6 kilometres long. On Stenungsön, another nature trail is 3.3 kilometres long; the nature trails in the south of the island pass through deep forests and offer coastal views.

A walk on Stenungsön also has a different focus: It passes numerous grand villas from the early 20th century. This makes it possible to combine nature, coastal scenery and historic architecture on different routes without presenting the individual trails as a single unified offering.

Historic sites and culture in the town

Stenunge by is located in the centre of Stenungsund and preserves the remains of a medieval village. Mariagården is a listed building from the late 18th century. A reconstructed grain mill stands at Mariagården and can mill flour when there is sufficient water supply. Mariagården is a 12-minute walk from Stenungsund railway station.

Kulturhuset Fregatten is centrally located in Stenungsund. It can be reached by bus, bicycle or car and is also within walking distance of Stenungsund railway station. RUM1 at Kulturhuset Fregatten is a creative workshop where visitors can make films. The Cykla Stenungsund-Jordhammar cycling tour also starts in the centre at the tourist information office in Kulturhuset Fregatten. The route leads to Söskär beach and is 6.6 kilometres long each way.

Stenungsunds Hembygdsmuseum is housed in an 18th-century glassmaker's farm and displays interiors and objects from the local area. Stenungsunds konsthall serves as a platform for established and local artists as well as for new, not yet established and challenging artists.

Art walk, harbour and paths by the water

Stenungsunds Konststråk is an art walk by the sea. It runs from Nösnäsbadet in the south to Badhustorget in the north. Stenungsund guest harbour is located near shops, services and entertainment venues. For orientation by the water, there is therefore both a clearly described art route and a harbour area with amenities in the surrounding area.
