Golf, Nature and Historic Traces in Spekeröd

Golf, nature and history offer different starting points for planning a trip to Spekeröd. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether your stay will focus mainly on golf, a nature experience or cultural and historical themes. Specific points of interest include Stenungsunds Golfklubb, Svartedalen Nature Reserve and evidence from various historical periods.

Golf Course and Short Course

Stenungsunds Golfklubb is located at Lundby 205, 444 93 Spekeröd. Its course is an open heathland course that winds around the Anråsån. The landscape and river are therefore among the golf course’s defining features. You do not need to be a member of the golf club or have prior golfing experience to play the short course, and you do not need to book a tee time. This also makes the course appealing to people who have not played golf before. The club also offers a Grönt-kort course for obtaining Swedish golf proficiency certification. As course offerings may change, check whether the course is currently available before planning a trip around it.

Nature in the Surrounding Area

Another focus is Svartedalen Nature Reserve. It is accessible from Spekeröd on the Stenungsund side, and the Bohusleden trail runs through the reserve. This gives you different interests to choose from when planning your trip: the golf course around the Anråsån or a route through a nature reserve. If you are mainly interested in experiencing nature, Svartedalen and the Bohusleden offer specific points of interest to consider when choosing where to stay.

Church and Archaeological Periods

Spekeröds kyrka is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew. It is thought to date from the 12th or 13th century; in 1388, the church was mentioned as “Spikkariodærs kirkia”. These details combine a presumed date of origin with a dated historical reference.

Spekeröd 8 is an Iron Age archaeological complex comprising a burial ground and a settlement. The burial ground contained about 20 graves and is dated from the Late Roman Iron Age to the Migration Period, approximately 350 to 500 AD. At Kännestorp, the timespan extends further back: in the southern part of an area investigated there, traces show about 1,500 years of continuity from the Late Bronze Age to the Viking Age. This area is part of a larger prehistoric settlement centre with several settlements and burial grounds. The two archaeological points of interest offer different perspectives: Spekeröd 8 comprises a burial ground and a settlement, while the traces at Kännestorp reflect a longer continuity of settlement.

Spekerödsdagen

As a recurring village day for the whole family, Spekerödsdagen adds another cultural highlight. The event takes place at Hembygdsgården Kleva and Spekeröds Bygdegård. The 2026 edition included workshops in crafts and art; future programmes may differ. If you would like to combine your stay with the village day, check the dates and programme for the relevant edition in advance.
