Fishing harbour and regional food culture

Spiken’s inland fishing harbour is one of the largest inland fishing harbours in Europe. Spiken is also one of the most active fishing areas on Lake Vänern; fishing activity may change. You can buy freshly smoked fish in Spiken. Availability and opening hours vary by provider. Vänern löjrom is sold seasonally, while supplies from the year last; available quantities may also vary.

A historical culinary account tells the story: when Artur came to Spiken, he told his landlords how people in Kalix handled löjrom, the roe of the vendace. Several restaurants and cafés serve food right by the water; current venues and menus may change. Local artisans offer, among other things, rag rugs, clothing, ceramics, art, jewellery, wirework, skincare products and their own spice blends. The local retail mix may also change over time.

The harbour and waterfront

Inside the fishing harbour is a well-equipped guest marina. Spiken also has a boat slipway and a bathing jetty. Alongside the fishing harbour, these offer different waterfront features: the guest marina, boat launching and the bathing jetty. Which of these matters to your travel plans depends on which aspects of the area you want to experience.

Cycling, paddling and nature

Läckö Castle stands near Spiken on a cliff jutting out into Lake Vänern. Cyclists can ride between Spiken and Läckö Castle along the first completed section of the Läcköleden trail. A municipal update dated 15 July 2026 and updated on 27 July 2026 describes this section as complete; later stages may change. On Kållandsö, a trail about four kilometres long winds through forest and over rocks, offering beautiful views of Lake Vänern and Läckö Castle.

The Läckö–Spiken paddling route has good launch points for visitors with their own canoe or kayak. In autumn, you can join guided tours related to the traditional fishing of Vänern roe; check current dates. Fishing with hand-held tackle is free in Spiken, both from shore and by boat. Check the applicable fishing regulations before fishing. Spiken also has a miniature golf course. As this is a seasonal attraction, it’s a good idea to check its current operating dates.
