Water, Trails and Activity

Källby can be explored through its water, outdoor activities and visible local history. Lake Vänern closely connects Källby with nature and water; the area also has a small marina. Källby badplats has a sandy beach in the northwest. There is also a large open grassy area and a designated section for dogs to swim. This gives you different options when planning your day: the beach, the open grassy area or the designated dog-swimming area.

Hiking Trails with Different Stages

From Källby, Kinnekulle is easy to reach, with its hiking and cycling trails and many opportunities to experience nature. Kinnekulleleden, also known as Kinnekulle vandringsled, is 48 kilometres long and classified as moderately difficult. Biosfärleden has two sections with different routes: Råda kyrka–Källby is 19 kilometres long and ends at Källby station. The Källby–Trolmen section starts there and ends in Trolmen on the Kinnekulle table mountain. After leaving the built-up area of Källby, this section climbs quite steeply. The distinction is useful when finding your way at the station: it is the endpoint of the stage from Råda kyrka and the starting point of the stage to Trolmen.

Källby is also a stop where you can get off for the Kinnekulleleden. The Kinnekullebanan railway runs through Källby; train and bus connections are also part of the local transport network. Check the timetable for your travel dates when planning your journey.

The information about local activities also varies by activity: Källby Mistaskogen has a 2.0-kilometre illuminated fitness trail. An illuminated route is also listed in Källby as a 1.6-kilometre ski trail.

Cultural History Across Different Periods

Källby kyrka dates from the later part of the 12th century and was built in the Romanesque style from sandstone. The church houses a sculpture of Mary with the Christ Child. It was made from oak in the 15th century and carved from a single piece of wood. The church’s construction history and the sculpture thus represent two different historical periods.

There are nine archaeological sites in total at Källby hallar. The historic mill landscape at Sjökvarn dates back to the late 17th century. The area’s railway history is also part of its character: the old railway keeper’s cottage still stands beside Källby platform, while the station building has since been demolished. Källby’s railway settlement illustrates the changes in Swedish rural communities associated with railway construction in the 20th century.
