Borås: Nature, Art and Discoveries

Borås combines experiences in nature with contemporary art, textile culture, and opportunities for playful discovery. If you would like to shape your trip around different interests, you will find both longer hiking trails and a municipal nature reserve here, as well as museums, public art, a zoo, and a science center.

Nature Trails and Viewpoints

Rya Åsar is a municipal nature reserve established in 2001. The Rya klint viewpoint offers extensive views over Borås. For a longer hike, the 9-kilometer Hestra Ekås trail is available. It runs through spruce forests and gently undulating terrain and is described as a hiking trail of moderate difficulty.

There are also shorter trails with a different character. Rya Åsar Rävstigen is an 800-meter discovery trail for children, with various play elements along the way. The section of the Sjuhäradsleden hiking trail that runs through Borås is 47 kilometers long. The entire trail is 140 kilometers long and forms part of the E1 European long-distance path. This provides very different trail lengths to choose from when planning, from a short discovery trail to a long-distance hiking route.

Getting to Rya Åsar is also associated with a specific stop: the nearest bus stop is Björbostugan. From there, one of the entrances is approximately 200 meters away. This is an estimate and refers to this entrance to the nature reserve.

Art and Textiles in the City

Borås Art Museum presents exhibitions of national and international contemporary art. The city's art landscape also includes more than one hundred sculptures, installations, and murals located within a radius of just under 1.5 kilometers in Borås. They are part of the city's public art collection. The museum offers guided tours of Borås' public art.

Since 2008, Borås Art Museum has hosted the international art biennial Borås Art Biennial every two years. It was formerly called Borås Internationella Skulpturbiennal. For another route option, a loop is documented that starts and ends at Sandwalls Plats and is 1.3 kilometers long.

At the Textile Museum, the Textil Kraft exhibition shows several textile machines in operation and illustrates the process from fiber to finished fabric. In the DIY area, tools and materials for visitors' sewing projects are freely available. This allows the museum visit to be experienced both through industrial production and through hands-on work.

Zoo and Science Center

Around 300 animals from 42 different species live at Borås Zoo. The zoo is also a center for species conservation, biodiversity, and research. Navet offers another form of discovery: the science center conveys science and technology through playful exploration. Navet is centrally located in Borås and near a bus stop and the train station.
