Aplared: Railway History, Nature and Activities
Accommodation in Aplared
For a stay in Aplared, railway history and present-day leisure activities sit side by side in the village and its immediate surroundings. Aplared developed around its railway station, which opened to traffic in 1902. A 280-metre-long railway tunnel was also built near Aplared. The opening year and tunnel length offer different points of reference: the year places the station’s history in time, while the length gives a tangible sense of the tunnel as a structure.

Exercise and community life
There is a floodlit running trail at Ekbacken, 1,500 metres long. It is lit from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.; the lights are off during daylight. The trail length and lighting hours are practical points of reference when planning exercise during your stay. A boules court is located beside the grass playing field at Ekbacken. There is also a wind shelter in the woods by the gravel area, with a place to barbecue.
On the last Sunday of every month, Aplareds IF holds a guessing game, walk and quiz at the clubhouse from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Fika is also served there on the last Sunday of the month. In 2026, retired people and others with free time during the day meet at Aplareds IF on Mondays at 10 a.m. for informal activities, including walks around the floodlit running trail. The monthly gathering and the Monday activity take place at different times: on the last Sunday and on Monday mornings, respectively. Check the club’s current schedule before visiting if you plan to take part in either activity.
Nature and water nearby
A nature reserve with beautiful natural surroundings and Bronze Age clearance cairns is located near Ekbacken. For those who want to explore nature and local history together, this offers another travel-planning theme alongside the railway history.
Aplared is close to several small lakes that offer opportunities for fishing and other water activities. This is a different focus from the running trail and boules court at Ekbacken. The swimming jetty at Skansasjön is also located in the immediate vicinity of Aplared. It is in the water from mid-May to early September. The lakes and the swimming jetty offer different points of reference for planning your travel dates: the stated seasonal period applies to the jetty, while the lakes are associated with fishing and other water activities. If you plan to visit the jetty specifically, take this period into account.
Aplared’s specific attractions range from railway history to exercise, club activities, nature and water. When deciding on your trip, consider which focus you would like to shape your stay. If club activities or the swimming jetty are important to you, check their dates or seasonal period against your travel dates.
