Torpshammar: River Landscapes, Boda Borg and History
Accommodation in Torpshammar
Torpshammar can be explored through a range of interests: solving puzzles together at Boda Borg, walking through the area, and enjoying the river landscapes along Gimån and Ljungan. Other highlights include Torpshammars kyrka and surviving parts of the former Torpshammars Bruk. The S:t Olavsleden also passes through Torpshammar. When planning your stay, you can choose between an indoor activity, outdoor pursuits and local history.
Group Activities and River Landscapes
Boda Borg Torpshammar is an indoor adventure for groups. Its 22 unique quests put teamwork and problem-solving to the test. The number of quests gives a group visit a clear structure; working together offers a different focus from outdoor walks or local history. The indoor format is therefore a distinct activity option alongside things to do outdoors. Boda Borg is open from April through November. Day tickets must be booked no later than the day before; otherwise, email to ask whether it will be open. Plan your visit within this seasonal period and keep the booking deadline in mind. Before setting out, check the latest visitor and booking information.
Camp Mid Adventure is located on a pine-covered ridge beside the calm waters of the Ljungan, surrounded by the high mountains of Ljungandalen. In the Torps socken area, Camp Mid Adventure offers water sports on the Ljungan and at Backetjärn. The swimming area at Backetjärn is managed by Mid Adventure. There are also flower beds and a rest area by Gimån. This provides several ways to enjoy the water during an outdoor stay: the managed swimming area, water sports and the rest area by Gimån.
Trails and Getting Around
There is a dedicated map listing for the section of the S:t Olavsleden in Torpshammar. Torpshammar stor promenadslinga is another trail. There is parking at IP along the route; you can reach it by train to the station or by buses that stop at several places along Torpshammarvägen. The travel information refers to the Promenadslinga, while the map listing covers the section of the S:t Olavsleden. Keeping the two distinct helps you plan your routes without applying the travel information for one to the other.
Church and Industrial History
Torpshammars kyrka is a small stone church built in 1938. The history of Torpshammars Bruk is rooted in an ironworks: its establishment at the outlet of Gimån into the Ljungan, in Ånge Municipality, was approved in 1797. Parts of older industrial buildings belonging to Torpshammars Bruk remain today on the eastern bank of Gimån. Two specific aspects of industrial history come together here: the approved site of the former works at the river outlet and the surviving building sections on the riverbank. The dates mark different building and local histories: 1797 is the year the ironworks was approved, and 1938 the year the church was built.
