Coastal hike along the Furögrundsleden

The Furögrundsleden is a 10-kilometre hiking trail in scenic surroundings. It runs along the coast between Kolviken and Byske Havsbad via Furögrund. The route therefore passes several points along the coastline and is not limited to a single shore location. For visitors who want to experience the coastal character not just at one point but over a longer stretch, this hiking trail is a good option. Along the trail, visitors may encounter trolls. In addition to the coastal landscape, the trolls give the route its own recurring motif. This theme complements the trail without displacing the coast as its main feature. The specific character of the Furögrundsleden therefore includes both the scenic surroundings and the distinctive figures along the route.

The Byskeälven in the heart of Byske

The Byskeälven flows through the centre of Byske. It is an unregulated Nordic forest river with wild salmon and wild trout. Its character includes both calm pools and fast-flowing sections. Pools are calm areas of water in the river. Alongside these are sections with a strong current, so the Byskeälven displays different types of water movement. The calm areas and the fast-flowing sections belong to the same river and do not represent a contrast between two separate bodies of water. Together with the wild salmon and wild trout, they shape the character of the Byskeälven. Its location in the centre of Byske also makes the forest river a landscape feature of the town.

Church and church town

Byske Church stands out for its unusual, distinctive octagonal shape. Byske church town was established in connection with the construction of the present church between 1870 and 1872. The church had been completed by its inauguration on 13 October 1872. The church and the church town are not the same: the octagonal shape describes the church building, while the church town emerged in connection with its construction. Both are therefore part of the history of the locality, but represent different aspects. In the case of the church, it is the distinctive architectural form; in the case of the church town, it is the historical context connected with the church’s construction. The two terms should therefore be considered separately, even though they are linked by their history of development.

Family experience and local speciality

Byske utebad has a 125-square-metre children’s pool with a marine theme and play features. The specific area is intended for children. The marine theme and play features give the pool a distinct focus within Byske utebad. Another special feature is the Byske Caramel Factory, which has been producing caramels since 1906. Thus, alongside the coastal trail, river and church architecture, caramel production is also one of Byske’s clearly identifiable features.
