Ã…sele: Nature, Culture and Trails in the Forest Region
Åsele lies in the forest region between the mountains and the coast. The Ångermanälven flows through the municipality, offering opportunities for recreation and leisure activities, including fishing, swimming, canoeing and boat trips. In winter, the Ångermanälven is a frequently used route for walking, skiing and snowmobiling.

Culture
An important cultural site is Torvsjö Kvarnar. The still-functioning water-powered facility has been a legally protected historic building since 1972 and is a cultural environment of national interest; the facility is open to visitors. A readily accessible hiking trail also runs along the Kvarnbäcken stream at Torvsjö Kvarnar.
In the center of Åsele, the Åsele Hembygdsområde comprises 17 buildings and 50 exhibitions. Guided tours of the grounds and buildings are offered in summer. The site includes, among other things, a clothing museum and an exhibition on the history of the Sámi people in the municipality. Åsele Marknad is a four-day summer market with origins dating back to the 17th century.
Åsele Kulturhus also features a visible work of art: One gable end has been decorated since summer 2019 with a large mural created by the artist Q (Anya Blom). At Tegelbacksgården, traditional tunnbröd, blood bread, fika bread and other products baked on the farm are offered.
Water and Winter
Stamsjöbadet is a gently sloping bathing area with a sandy beach, about 4 kilometers from the center of Åsele. The bathing area has a jetty, barbecue areas and a large parking lot. Stamsjöbadet can be reached by bicycle, car or on foot.
Ã…slia is a ski resort with lifts, about 3.5 kilometers from the center of Ã…sele. In winter, the illuminated trail in the center of Ã…sele is groomed for both classic cross-country skiing and freestyle. In summer, it can be used for walking, jogging and running.
Nature and Hiking Trails
The Stockholmsgata nature reserve contains a 1.5-kilometer-long and 50-meter-deep ravine. The area provides a habitat for rare lichens such as Schattensprößlingsflechte and Faden-Knorpelflechte, as well as species such as Siberian jay, three-toed woodpecker and capercaillie.
In the Stenbithöjden nature reserve, a hiking trail leads to Höjdakojan, which has one room and four sleeping places; from there, you can continue to Toppstugan. Kyrkstigen is Åsele's closest hiking trail to the town. It begins in Norrstrand at Gamla Lyckselevägen and leads through the forest to Älgsjö.
Vitterhuset is a rock formation in the village of Östernoret, about 12 kilometers outside the center of Åsele. From the Östernoret bathing area, the rock formation can be reached via an easy hike through Vittermyren and the forest.
The Ã…slia Magical Forest Trail begins at the parking lot by Ã…slia's Toppstuga, which can be reached by car via a gravel road. Along the trail through the pine forest are several wind shelters with fireplaces.
Bergvattenberget, popularly known as Offerhällan, is a viewpoint in Sörnoret. The trail there has an elevation difference of 120 meters and some steeper sections; at the summit there is a wind shelter and a fireplace.
Rangelsten is a roughly 7-meter-high and 4-meter-wide boulder shaped by the inland ice, with an almost flat top and a viewing function. The boulder can be reached from Rangelberget via a marked trail; Rangelberget can be reached by car.
Further Trails
The Angsjön main entrance to Björnlandet National Park can be reached from Åsele via Route 92 toward Umeå. From the turnoff, an approximately 24-kilometer-long gravel road leads to the main entrance.
Konstvägen – Sju älvar is a 350-kilometer-long outdoor art exhibition with 13 works of art. It runs from Holmsund on the coast in the east to Borgafjäll in southern Lapland in the west, connecting experiences of nature with cultural and historical attractions.
