Skutskär
Skutskär between cycling paths, Bodaån and local history
Skutskär combines a cycling tour that leads through much of the area with a riverbank, bathing area and vivid local history. This gives you various ways to experience the area during your trip: you can approach it by bicycle, explore historical topics on a walk or spend time by Bodaån. The connection to Gävle can also be taken into account when choosing where to stay.
Cycling through large parts of the area
The 10-kilometre cycling tour “Skutskär runt” runs through large parts of Skutskär. Its route runs from north to south and also passes through the eastern and western parts of the area. The tour is therefore designed as a circuit of the area itself and shows Skutskär from several directions, rather than exploring just one individual section.
A second option is the Näsboda outdoor recreation area. There you will find blue-marked MTB routes of 10 or 15 kilometres. The two route lengths offer a different focus from the local circuit: in Näsboda, you can choose between marked MTB routes, while “Skutskär runt” connects large parts of the area.
Historic Trails and Library
Maps for historical walks are available at the library in Skutskär. One such walk also explores the history of the Klamparna. This was a professional group that assessed the quality of sawn boards and sorted them into different classes. The historical walk explains this activity.
The local history also includes Sverkil Simonsson. Among other things, he was responsible for a shipyard on Rotskär in the late 16th century. The library also has information and personal belongings telling the story of the writer and journalist Stig Dagerman. The facility also offers exhibitions as well as access to daily newspapers and magazines. This means you can find both historical content about the area and services that go beyond individual attractions.
Bodaån and the bathing area in the centre
Along Bodaån, Skutskär has footpaths and places for relaxation. The river is therefore not only a geographical reference point but also an area where a walk and a break can be combined. A bathing area is located in the centre of Skutskär, behind Willys. It has grassy areas, a small sandy beach and bathing jetties.
Skutskär in relation to Gävle
The journey from the centre of Skutskär to Gävle takes just under 30 minutes. This information adds a specific connection to another destination to the orientation within the area, without equating Skutskär’s local offerings with those of Gävle.
