Discover Örsundsbro through its river and cultural history: the Örsundaån flows through the town, which also has a guest harbor for recreational boats. Nearby, you’ll also find farm history and scenic views. Museums and historic sites offer different perspectives, from life on a farm and the history of schooling to trade and cinema in earlier times.

River, Landscape, and History

The Örsundaån was once an important route for boat traffic. The town’s guest harbor is intended for recreational boats. Farmland shapes the landscape around Örsundsbro, surrounded by deciduous and coniferous forests. Water and open farmland framed by forest are two distinct features of the town’s character.

Kvekgården, an open-air museum about life on a farm in the 19th century, lies nearby to the west of Örsundsbro. The farm is one of the best-preserved older farms in Uppsala County and remains at its original site. In summer, visitors can join a guided tour of the many buildings. Since tours are offered seasonally, it’s a good idea to check the dates before you travel.

For a different glimpse into the past, visit the nearby Nysätra School Museum. It displays school items dating from the mid-19th century onward, including school desks and old textbooks. While Kvekgården focuses on rural life, Nysätra explores the history of schools and teaching. Nearby Giresta Church also has a clearly dated building history: the medieval church burned down in 1911; the present building dates from 1914 and is the third church to stand on the same site.

Trade and Cinema in Town

In the center of Örsundsbro, next to the bridge, Kappen is housed in a red wooden building. The small trade museum displays the historic interior of a local general store. Sweden’s first cooperative store was founded at the Kappen site in 1850. Kappen thus represents the town’s trading history, while nearby museums shed light on other aspects of everyday life in the past.

Gamla Bion also tells a story of public life: films were shown there until 1961. Today, the cinema serves as a living museum, with guided tours available by appointment. On summer evenings, Gamla Bion screens current quality films; the film program is seasonal. If you’re planning a tour or a movie night, check the dates in advance.

Nature Views and a Swimming Area

If you’d rather focus on the landscape than museum collections, the Uvberget Nature Reserve is nearby. From there, views stretch across the Örsundaån valley and Lake Alstasjön. Conditions in the nature reserve may change, so it’s a good idea to check the latest information before your visit.

Alstabadet is located three kilometers west of Örsundsbro. The swimming area has a sandy beach, a children’s swimming area, large lawns, changing rooms, a toilet, a barbecue area, and bathing jetties. This makes it a different kind of destination from the museums and historic buildings. Facilities may change, so check what is available before your visit.

Farm shops around Örsundsbro are also part of the local offering, selling products such as cheese, sausage, and bread. The selection may change. Shopping and swimming complement the themes of the river, history, and nature, without any one of them defining the town on its own.
