Landscape and Early History

Grillby's landscape includes extensive farmland and pastures. The eastern parts of the town border Lake Mälaren.

The Grillbybygden is rich in rock carvings and areas with prehistoric remains. One specific example is the Grillby carving beside the school, which dates from the Bronze Age. This connects the broader view of the Grillbybygden's prehistory with a named monument and a specific time period.

Historic Sites in the Grillby Area

The park Anna Lindhs park is named after Anna Lindh. She grew up in Hacksta, outside Grillby. The medieval church of Villberga is also in the Grillby area. The Fånö estate is located by Lake Mälaren near Grillby and is one of the oldest historic sites in the municipality. Its origins date back to the 12th century. Upplandskubb and Kokeriet's Offerings

In central Grillby, Upplandskubbkokeriet makes Upplandskubb. The bread has a protected designation of origin and is considered unique of its kind in Sweden. Upplandskubb is also the focus of bookable experiences: Kokeriet offers talks, courses, or meal experiences. As booking availability can change, check in advance which offerings can be booked for your dates.

An unattended Kubbomat stands outside the bakery at Upplandskubbkokeriet. Upplandskubb is sold there on weekends; pre-ordered Upplandskubb can be picked up any day of the week. If you are planning to buy or collect some, note the difference between weekend sales and collection of pre-ordered goods.

Running Trails, Training, and Library

The Grillby exercise trails are 2.5 and 1.5 kilometres long. The shorter and longer distances can be compared directly. The lights on the Grillby exercise trails can be switched on by pressing a button at Skogsvallen or at the end of Kärnvägen.

The Grillby outdoor gym is located right beside the lit trail at Skogsvallen. It is free and can be used by people of all ages, regardless of training level. Various machines and equipment are available for a full-body workout; instructions and exercise tips are provided for the equipment. If you are deciding between running and working out on the machines, these offer different points of reference: the trail distances on the one hand, and the training options at the outdoor gym on the other.
