Rimbo reveals itself through distinct contrasts: a stone church, culture, waterside spots and trails. When planning your trip, it is worth considering the different highlights and seasonal timings. Migratory birds take centre stage at Kundbysjön; the ski trail near Västertorpsskogen requires sufficient snow cover. This lets you experience culture, nature and seasonal activities as different facets of the area.

Church and history

Today’s stone Rimbo kyrka was built in the second half of the 15th century; its design has not changed since. The church interior, sacristy, vestibule and vaults were built as one connected complex. The Sjuhundraleden also offers a glimpse into the area’s history: it ran through Rimbo and was a Viking route from Norrtäljeviken to Uppsala. The church and this historic route thus offer different ways to explore the area’s history.

Swimming and culture

Rimbo badhus has a large pool with 25-metre lanes, a separate play area, a water slide and a toddlers’ pool. There is also a warm teaching pool at around 32 to 34°C. It is used for swimming lessons, water aerobics and physiotherapy.

Rimbo Kulturscen is a cultural centre where people of all ages can experience and take part in the performing arts. The programme varies. Alongside the water-based activities, the performing arts are another distinct cultural highlight in the area.

Nature and waterside spots

Näset is one of Rimbo’s three larger existing nature areas. As development and access conditions may change, check the current situation before planning a specific visit. Kundbysjön lies about two kilometres southeast of Rimbo centre. It is a bird lake and an important stopover for migratory birds; the recommended time to visit is from spring to autumn.

Sandbanken bathing spot is in Rimbo on the northern shore of Långsjön. Its shoreline is about 35 metres long and faces south; there are also grassy areas, and deciduous woodland surrounds the site. The waterside spots therefore differ in their stated highlights: at Kundbysjön, the focus is on birdlife and migratory birds, while at Sandbanken it is on the bathing spot and its shoreline setting.

Trails and seasonal planning

Cycling, hiking and horse riding are allowed and welcome on the Banvallarna. The developed sections from Norrtälje to Rimbo and from Rimbo to Rånäs follow the flat, wooded routes of former railway embankments. The undeveloped section from Rimbo to Hallstavik via Edsbro and Skebobruk is different: it is partly usable; Norrtälje Municipality does not carry out inspections, maintenance or repairs there. Check the route status before setting off.

The illuminated running trail near Västertorpsskogen is groomed as a ski trail in winter when there is sufficient snow cover. Rimbo Marknad is held every year on the first Thursday in October; check the exact date before travelling. SL bus route 648 runs between Rimbo station and Rånäs according to a fixed timetable, and no booking is required for departures. As route regulations may change, check the current timetable before travelling.
