Discover Danderyd through a range of experiences: archaeological traces, forest paths, historic places and waterside swimming spots.

Culture Trail and History

The Nora-Ekeby Culture Trail is an approximately 6-kilometre archaeological and cultural-historical walking route. You can explore it on foot or by bicycle, using existing roads and paths. Archaeological remains along the trail include runic inscriptions and burial grounds. The route thus combines exercise with different kinds of historical evidence: runes and burial sites offer distinct ways to explore the area's history.

Danderyd Church also brings together several historical layers. It has served as a parish and community church since the 15th century; it took on its present three-aisled form in the 17th century under Svante Gustafsson Banér. For travellers interested in architectural and local history, its long-standing religious function and a later structural change can therefore be seen side by side.

Forest Paths and Activity

In the western part of Danderyd Municipality, Rinkebyskogen Nature Reserve lies right next to a residential area. It has numerous paths, hiking trails and exercise trails. Part of the Roslagsleden trail passes through the reserve; there is also a 4-kilometre mountain biking trail. You can plan different activities separately: paths and exercise trails, a section of the Roslagsleden within the reserve, and a designated mountain biking route.

Along its paths and exercise trails, Altorpskogen gives the impression of a deep, primeval forest. Small deciduous-tree marshes are scattered throughout the area. This landscape description has a different focus from the information about the individual routes in Rinkebyskogen: here, the character of the forest and the scattered wetlands shape the scene.

Swimming Spots and Water

At Borgenklipporna, on the shore of Edsviken, there are flat rocks for sunbathing. A swimming ladder makes it easier to access the deep water. Hammarbacken is also a rocky swimming spot on Edsviken. Both names refer to swimming spots on the same body of water; the swimming ladder described here is at Borgenklipporna.

Kvarnparksbadet offers a different kind of swimming: you can swim in its pool during the summer months. Nora-ån, meanwhile, flows through Kvarnparken; various plant species that thrive there grow close to the water. The difference is practical for planning: the flat rocks on Edsviken contrast with a seasonal swimming pool, while the stream and its plants add a distinct natural feature.

Mill, Tower and Cultural Events

In Nora, Kvarnstugan once housed a mill and a sawmill. Both were powered by the stream from Ekebysjön. Water is therefore also part of the area's working history: it was not just a feature of the landscape, but powered the two businesses.

In the southern part of the municipality, in Stocksund right by Stocksund, stand Cedergrenska Tower and its park. Construction of the tower began in 1896; it was inaugurated in 1996. The two dates mark different stages in its history, from the start of construction to its inauguration.

Danderydsgården hosts concerts as well as art and photography exhibitions, with a focus on cultural activities for children. The address is Noragårdsvägen 27. It is a five-minute bus ride or a 15-minute walk from Mörby centrum. Its location and the travel times provided can also help you work this cultural venue into your day's plans.
