Bergshamra between seaside bathing and cultural history
Accommodation in Bergshamra
Morabadet is a seaside bathing spot on the eastern side of Bergshamraviken. For a trip to Bergshamra, you can also explore three different interests: swimming in the sea or a lake, hiking a longer stage, and cultural history. The specific places and details provide different points of reference for planning your day.
Swimming spots by the sea and lake
Gunnsjöbadet is a swimming spot at an inland lake in Bergshamra, on the southern shore of Gunnsjön. Together with Morabadet, this gives you two different waterside settings: Morabadet on the eastern side of Bergshamraviken and Gunnsjöbadet on the lake’s southern shore. If you distinguish swimming spots by coastal or inland waters, this contrast can guide your choice. It is not just a question of two names, but of whether the seaside bathing spot on the bay or the swimming area by the lake is more relevant to your trip. This makes the difference between a coastal and an inland location a useful starting point if swimming is to shape your trip.
Hiking through varied landscapes
Stage 6 of Roslagsleden is a 22 km hiking stage from Wira bruk to Penningby. The route passes through varied forests, open fields, and cultural landscapes; there are several swimming spots and wind shelters along the way. The hike thus combines changing scenery with practical facilities along the route. The distance and the two endpoints provide a clear framework for planning the hike, while the landscape descriptions characterize different sections of the route. If you are planning a longer stage, you can factor the distance, endpoints, and landscape into your plans. Unlike a single swimming spot, the focus here is on the course of a 22 km stage.
Cultural history and maritime crafts
Morastugan is a two-room timber-framed house from the early 19th century. It was built around 1815–1817 in connection with the land consolidation in the village of Mora and is located on the Mora 2:2 property in Bergshamra, in Länna parish. The connection between the building’s design and land consolidation also makes the site a testament to a change in the village: its history relates both to the building and to the reorganization of the land. The wall paintings in Morastugan are the only ones of their kind in all of Stockholm County; they add a distinctive cultural-historical dimension to the building’s history.
Another historical point of reference is Kvarngården in Bergshamra: a 16th-century mill that serves as the local heritage association’s homestead. In chronological terms, it considerably predates Morastugan. Boatbuilding remains one of Bergshamra’s industries. The history therefore spans a 16th-century mill, a house from the early 19th century, and a continuing maritime industry.
