Osby combines water activities, nature reserves and a diverse cultural history. If you would like to tailor your stay to your interests, you can choose between paddling on Lake Osby, walks through natural areas, museums, art and historical sites. There is also a specific point of reference for arriving by train: Lekoseum is 50 metres from Osby railway station and can be reached by Öresundståg or Pågatåg.

Water and trails around Lake Osby

The municipal Näset Nature Reserve is located on a peninsula in Lake Osby. There are hiking trails, a lookout tower and opportunities for kayaking and canoeing. On Lake Osby, the whole family can paddle in calm waters and go around the Näset peninsula. Two child-friendly bathing spots with gently sloping shores complement the water activities. Those planning a longer hike will also find the Skåneleden trail (SL1 Coast to Coast, Stage 7) in the Näset area.

For active days, Klinten offers a lit fitness trail with circular routes for walking, running and cycling. A lookout point there provides views of central Osby and Lake Osby. This allows you to balance peaceful lakeside experiences and exercise on land in different ways, without limiting your daily plan to just one activity.

Nature and history at Osby skansar

The Osby skansar Nature Reserve lies on elevated ground between the Helge å River and Lake Osby. Old beech trees define the area; rare lichens may grow on their bark, including beech bark lichen and Stiftklotterflechte. An unmarked path leads to the old 17th-century fortification of Sibbarps skans. Anyone wishing to visit this historical site should take the nature of the path into account when planning.

Museums, art and Osby Church

Lekoseum displays locally made toys from different eras. The museum thus offers its own perspective on the history of the area and the development of toys. Göta Motorer presents the history of technology: today’s living industrial museum features a collection of boat engines, stationary engines and preserved spare parts.

Osby Church also tells the story of several construction phases. It has stood in the same location since the Middle Ages. Of the medieval building, only the chancel and apse remain today; the nave was demolished in 1834 and rebuilt twice as long and twice as wide. For contemporary art, the Konstpromenad map takes visitors on a 2-kilometre walk past 11 public artworks and buildings in central Osby. Osby Konsthall is located in the Osby Library in central Osby. The Konstpromenad in central Osby begins in front of the Osby Library and ends on the shore of Lake Osby at Sjöängen.

Choose Osby according to your travel interests

Those who want to focus on nature and water can include Näset, Lake Osby and Osby skansar in their daily plans. Culture enthusiasts can choose Lekoseum, Göta Motorer, Osby Church and the art offerings as different focal points. Klinten adds trails for walking, running and cycling to this selection. When looking for accommodation in Osby, you can therefore first decide whether you want your days to focus more on museums and art, nature and history, or water activities.

Other destinations at this level include Visseltofta, Killeberg, Svanshals, Hökön and Lönsboda.
