Those looking to combine nature observation, local history and a manageable community event during their trip will find a range of points of interest in Hökön. The settlement lies in the northern part of Osby Municipality, near the border with Kronoberg County. Hökön is a family-friendly settlement; at the same time, it is worth distinguishing between the individual natural and cultural attractions according to their actual character.

Nature between Accessible Viewpoints and Quiet Moorlands

About 1.5 kilometres north of Hökön lies Tyringemossen, a 28-hectare nature reserve. Capercaillie, black grouse, hazel grouse, black woodpecker, short-eared owl, Eurasian pygmy owl and Tengmalm’s owl continue to be spotted in and around the area. For travellers interested in Nordic landscapes and birdwatching, the reserve is therefore an important natural attraction in the surrounding area.

When planning your visit, however, you should take the character of Tyringemossen into account: the area itself has no hiking trails or roads that make it easily accessible. The situation described at Vakö myr near Låkan is different. There, boardwalks and viewpoints are available. The moor can be reached from the public road between Hökön and Fanhult via a forest track located about 400 metres east of the moor. These two natural destinations therefore represent different visiting decisions: here, the specific access situation is the key consideration; there, it is the opportunity to include a largely undeveloped natural area in your plans.

Railway and Local History in Hökön

The history of the settlement includes the SOEJ, the Sölvesborg-Olofström-Elmhults järnväg. The railway line opened in 1901, and a station was built in Hökön. Hökön’s railway station, dating from the 1910s, has been preserved. Opposite it stands a wooden house from around the turn of the century that formerly served as a shop. These buildings give your visit a historical focus without requiring a specific sightseeing route.

The line’s present-day function is also part of the local character: the SOEJ railway line is still used for freight traffic. Another insight into the local past is provided by "Boken om Hököns skola". As part of this work, a working group documented the school’s activities from 1921 to 1973.

Market, Flea Market and Events

Hökön’s market and flea market take place every year, usually on the first Sunday in July. At the 2026 summer market and flea market, coffee with waffles and sausages served in bread were offered. This information applies to the 2026 event and should not be understood as a general daily offering.

An orienteering walk with questions for adults and children was also held at Hököns skola. The school also hosted a first gathering under the title "Social Gemenskap", featuring a talk by Reymond Olsson. Olsson has run his own apiary for many years and has extensive knowledge of beekeeping and the important role of bees in nature. Formats like these complement the natural and historical attractions with community events.

For a broader comparison of places within the same wider selection, you can also consider Svanshals, Killeberg, Osby, Visseltofta and Lönsboda.
