Nyhamnsläge between coastal heath and harbor

Nyhamnsläge combines coastal landscapes, protected nature, and the history of a former fishing village. The Nyhamnsläge–Lerhamn nature reserve stretches for approximately 2 km along the coast of the Kulla Peninsula. Those who want to explore the surrounding landscape during their stay will find a clear route with the Skåneleden trail: the long-distance hiking trail passes through the entire Nyhamnsläge–Strandbaden nature reserve.

A moraine ridge is a landform shaped by glaciers. In Nyhamnsläge, this landscape feature extends into the sea at Kullens havsbad; the coastal heathland lies around the ridge. Here, the landform and coastal heathland are therefore directly connected.

Coast, heathland, and traces of earlier times

The Nyhamnsläge–Strandbaden nature reserve encompasses coastal heathland around a moraine ridge that extends into the sea at Kullens havsbad. This means that the open coast is not the only focus here; the area also features a distinctive landform. The Nyhamnsläge–Lerhamn nature reserve also contains evidence from various periods: a stone circle from the Iron Age and a few burial mounds from the Bronze Age. The sites thus cover a period from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age and complement the more recent local history with considerably older traces.

These historical traces are situated in a natural setting that can easily be combined with a hike, without limiting the history of the village to a single building. For visitors who want to combine the coast and culture, the stone circle and burial mounds are among Nyhamnsläge’s historical traces.

From fishing village to harbor community

Nyhamnsläge was originally a fishing village called Nyhamn. The first house on the site from which today’s Nyhamnsläge later developed was built in 1778. The oldest buildings are located in the blocks around the harbor, making this area the historic center of the village.

The history of the name is also connected to the region’s transport history. When a railway station was built on the line to Mölle, the name was changed to Nyhamnsläge because the name Nyhamn had already been assigned to another place in Sweden. Nyhamn’s first proper landing pier was built in the early 19th century. The development from fishing village to harbor community can thus be traced through several clearly dated milestones.

Sailing, sauna, and an accessible playground

At Nyhamnsläge harbor, Röde Orm offers sailing courses for all age groups in summer. The shared evening sailing is reserved for members.

The Nyhamns Bastuförening offers sauna bathing in Nyhamnsläge. Non-members can use the sauna by contacting a member of the Nyhamns Bastuförening. There is also a bus connection for families interested in a playground: the playground in Nyhamnsläge can be reached on bus route 222 to the Nyhamnsläge centrum stop.
