Flyinge combines the long equestrian breeding tradition of Flyinge Kungsgård with the varied landscapes nearby. The breeding tradition there dates back to the Middle Ages. The Linnebjer woodland and the natural areas of Flyinge ängar, south of Flyinge, are also close to the town. You can shape your stay around different interests: equestrian history and riding, or woodland, meadows, and river landscapes.

Woodland and meadows around Flyinge

The Linnebjer (Linnebjär) nature reserve lies nearby. A marked trail about 1.5 kilometers long winds through its woodland. Today, the forest consists mainly of oaks and hazel trees. Linnebjer therefore offers a different landscape from Flyinge ängar: here, the trail passes through woodland, while south of Flyinge, flower-rich sandy slopes near the Kävlingeån give way to wet riverside meadows.

A rich variety of meadow plants grows on the dry, nutrient-poor slopes of Flyinge ängar. Among the species that may be found there are the rare Frölöpare and a small, hairy wild bee. The natural areas nearby vary considerably: woodland at Linnebjer, open sandy slopes, and wet meadows at Flyinge ängar. This can help you decide whether you would rather experience a woodland landscape or the transition from a dry slope to a riverside meadow.

In the northeastern part of Flyinge ängar, there is parking right by Flyinge, with the Flyinge Plantskolevägen bus stop immediately next to it. Check the current bus timetable before setting off. The Kävlingeån also helps with finding your way around: the river divides Flyinge into northern and southern parts.

Flyinge Kungsgård: horse breeding, park, and history

Flyinge Kungsgård has a horse-breeding and horse-rearing tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. The grounds also include a park, laid out in the first decades of the 19th century according to the landscape-garden ideals of the time. The history of horses and the designed park landscape therefore offer two different points of interest for visitors.

Visitors can explore the grounds of Flyinge Kungsgård independently and view the buildings. Most buildings have information boards about their history. The stables and riding halls are open to visitors daily from 08:00 to 16:00; confirm these visiting hours before your arrival. Guided tours must be booked in advance. The options therefore differ in how you plan your visit: for an independent tour, you can take the opening hours of the stables and riding halls into account, while a guided tour must be booked ahead of time.

Equestrian sports, cycling route, and a break

Competitions are also part of Flyinge’s equestrian profile. Every year, Flyinge hosts the Flyinge Indoor show-jumping competition, with classes up to the advanced level. Flyinge Hästsportklubb regularly organizes local and national competitions in various equestrian disciplines. If you are planning to travel to Flyinge for an event, check the latest dates, as schedules may change.

The proposed Eslöv–Lund cycling route passes Flyinge Kungsgård and continues into the village of Flyinge. The surface is also worth considering when planning your ride: about half of the route follows paved cycle paths, while the rest runs along smaller paved roads shared with other traffic. Allow for this change when planning, and check the latest route details before setting off.

For a break, Café Smedjan is right next to the garden center. It serves coffee or tea with homemade cakes, pastries, and chocolate balls, as well as salads and sandwiches. The selection may change.
