Ängelholm: Beaches, Nature and Culture

Ängelholm offers a coastal landscape where sandy beaches, dunes and woodland are directly connected with active trails and special museum experiences. For you, the main question is therefore whether your stay should focus on nature by the water, cycling, hiking, or the history of railways, aviation and leather.

Beach, Dunes and Trails in the Nature Reserve

The Ängelholms strandskog nature reserve encompasses high sand dunes, a long sandy beach and pine forest. One specific way to experience this landscape is the red circular trail: it is 7 kilometres long and passes through pine forest, spruce forest and the coast’s unique dune landscape. This makes the route different from a purely beach-based stay, with its succession of several woodland and landscape environments.

The Skåneleden SL1 Kust till kust, Stage 22, also runs through the northern part of Ängelholms strandskog. The trail connects the area with other parts of Ängelholm and north-western Skåne.

Ängelholm’s beach stretches for approximately six kilometres along Skälderviken. It is a wide sandy beach for swimming, exercise and families. Directly behind the beach lies Kronoskogen, with walking trails, exercise trails and cycle paths. The beach and forest therefore form two distinct, immediately adjoining areas: the open sandy beach by the water and a network of trails in the forest behind it.

Cycling, Water and Practical Orientation

For a cycling tour, the Lergöksrundan is available. The 16-kilometre-long, scenic route passes through Kronoskogen, follows the coast and continues through the centre of Ängelholm. It thus connects woodland, coast and town centre along a defined route. Rönne å offers a different kind of nature experience: the river provides opportunities for fishing, paddling and experiencing nature.

There are car parks in the northern and southern parts of Ängelholms strandskog for travelling to the nature reserve. The reserve is also accessible by public transport. Ängelholm railway station is approximately 1.5 kilometres from the reserve, while the nearest bus stop, Ängelholm Kulltorp, is approximately 1 kilometre away. Both figures are approximate and refer to the reserve, not to individual trails within the area.

Museums with Different Areas of Focus

Järnvägens Museum complements the landscape experiences with a technical perspective. The LOCOMOTION simulator lets you travel in a steam locomotive around the turn of the 20th century or in the cab of a modern locomotive. At Ängelholms Flygmuseum, you can see a collection of military aircraft ranging from the J 22 to the JAS 39 Gripen; all of these aircraft were in service with the squadron. Läder och lokalhistoriska museet presents Ängelholm’s leather heritage, including the leather factory at Ängavången and Grönwalls leather factory on Storgatan.
